Okay, if we’re going to get technical here, these are actually the Top 5 books from before I discovered the online book community. Basically, I discovered the world of BookTube and blogging last summer and I was so fascinated, I spent about a year watching quietly from the shadows until I mustered up enough courage to start a blog of my own. Anyway, I missed about three T5Ws in a row (yay me) because life happened and ugh. Really gotta start getting the hang of this blogging thing.
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
I read this series during my first year of college back in 2014 and was absolutely obsessed. I found the whole “protagonist doesn’t end up with the first guy” thing exceedingly mindblowing back then cause that was a new experience for me. I also pretty much stanned Warnette like crazy and was very disappointed about the lack of fanart… or I don’t know, maybe there was a lot of fanart and I just wasn’t looking hard enough.
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
I read Truthwitch summer of last year and I absolutely fell in love. This was the book that sort of spurred me into the book world again. I mean, I’ve always been a huge reader but for a while, my reading had been sporadic. Like I went months without reading anything, and I would buy books, but I wasn’t always able to finish them. This was the book that made me go, “Damn, I really miss reading.” And voila! The rest is history.
Uprooted by Naomi Novik
I was never a fan of standalone books but I remember wanting to give Uprooted a try because I wanted a quick read. Saw this on a list of sorts, took the chance, and never looked back. Uprooted easily made its way to my favorites shelf. It was fast-paced, direct, and packed with all the magic goodness I look for in books. And the romance was a nice bonus too. But the part that made me fall in love was definitely Kasia and Agniezka’s relationship.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
I bought Throne of Glass and Truthwitch together at the bookstore so I read this one right after Truthwitch (ironically, the authors were actually besties so that made me laugh when I found out). Throne of Glass was probably one of my favorite series before joining the community, and was actually the reason why I discovered the book community in the first place. Needless to say, I stopped loving this series shortly after.
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
Damn. I was so in love with Poison Study the first time I read it. Mostly because I adored the dynamic between Yelena and Valek. With all the brooding, overprotective YA heroes we get in practically every book, I found their relationship to be so refreshing. I mean, Valek had full trust in Yelena and her abilities. And even though I wasn’t a huge fan of the second book, I had massive appreciation for how he supported her even when they spent practically the entire book away from each other. Gah. I just love them.
