We’ve got another T5W! This week’s topic is side ships. I had a bit of a difficult time with this because I’m not a super huge shipper and I barely pay attention to side romance. But these are the few side ships that did manage to get me squealing with glee.
Tamar Kir-Bataar and Nadia (The Grisha Trilogy)
I was extremely pleased when Tamar and Nadia became a thing in Ruin and Rising. I rarely see F/F romances in YA fantasy books, so this was a sweet surprise! I love Tamar and I’m kind of indifferent towards Nadia but the two of them together was too freaking cute to not include here.
Nico di Angelo and Will Solace (The Heroes of Olympus/Trials of Apollo)
Okay, Nico di Angelo is my precious queer son and his relationship with Will is so fucking adorable and cute and endearing and every other synonym there is. I can’t properly describe how much I love Solangelo. Thank you Rick for blessing us with this couple in canon.
Vasher and Vivenna (Warbreaker)
And we have a platonic ship! Vasher is a huge grump and I enjoyed his and Vivenna’s interactions (and Nightblood’s heh) a lot while reading the book. They were hilarious and their dynamic was great! Plus, that ending! I’m dying to know what they’re going to be up to next.
Matthias Helvar and Nina Zenik (Six of Crows)
Cue heartbreak. I love all the pairs in SoC with all my heart but if I had to choose one, I lean heavily towards Helnik. I love them Matthias and Nina individually, and I love them even more together. These two are just so sweet and unabashedly romantic with each other.
Chaol Westfall and Dorian Havillard (Throne of Glass)
Do non-canon ships count? Because I ship these two so hard, it hurts. I mean, they’ve been friends since they were children and have sacrificed a hell of a lot for each other. It’s impossible not to love their relationship. Platonic or romantic, as long as Chaol and Dorian are together, I’m happy.
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam (Thoughts on Tomes) and created by Lainey (gingerreadslainey) on Goodreads. Interested? Join in the fun!
