I missed a couple of T5Ws thanks to being busy with finals and work. Gah. Hopefully I’ll be more consistent with them now. For this week’s topic, we have Fandoms! Ones that I’m no longer invested in for whatever reason I might have.
Oh man. I used to be a hardcore Whovian back in the day. I even have a couple of sonic screwdrivers (one of them functions as a remote) and a cookie jar TARDIS. Sad to say, my interest in the series waned when Matt Smith turned over his role as the Doctor to Peter Capaldi. It’s nothing against Capaldi, really. I just wasn’t enjoying the newer episodes as much as I enjoyed the old ones.
My Sherlock phase sort of went hand-in-hand with my Doctor Who phase. I was a definitely a bigger Whovian than I ever was a Sherlockian (is that a term? Sherlockian?) though. I think the long wait between episodes was what made me lose interest in this one. I made it to episode one of season three but unfortunately, I just couldn’t bring myself to care anymore.
I’m a fan of DC and I loved the first two seasons of Arrow. Then season three came and, well, everything kind of went downhill. There was too much focus on Olicity and not enough focus on other things. The plot was convoluted and I honestly found myself asking, “What’s the point of this?!” every time some new twist was thrown our way. I started to dislike Arrow so much that I didn’t even bother continuing with the Flash (who is one of my favorite DC superheros, by the way) either because I felt it’d just be the same. Guess I’m just going to wait for the Justice League movie to come out to get my dose of Barry Allen (sorry, Grant Gustin. I still love you).
Once upon a time, I was a Death Note fan. I lived and breathed the character L Lawliet. I had figurines, watches, bags, shirts, and necklaces, all with L’s face on them. Some, I’ve given away. Others, I’ve still kept. I suppose I just sort of outgrew this one, but I’ll admit, I still have my own Death Note replica hidden in the drawer of my desk. Hey, you ever know when you might need it!
Throne of Glass
Ahh. This might be somewhat a controversial one but I used to be a massive fan of the ToG series. Then a bunch of issues came to my attention and well, let’s just say I sort of lost my respect for the series as well as the author. Though Chaol Westfall remains to be one of my favorite characters in YA, ToG and I had to part ways. No more SJM books for me, I’m afraid.
